I’m 26 - not daft - had many friends and relatives with cancer and mentions of these words so although I’m not trying to freak out - I’m confused about this whole situation and can’t understand why my gp would say this when we have no results at all. In 1848, the German pathologist Rudolf Virchow first described it as an enlarged gland associated with gastric cancer. Following that - the gp asked if I had internet at home and recommended I use the website and to research lymph nodes and lymphoma. Gastrointestinal tumor metastases in the left supraclavicular lymph node, also known as the Virchow lymph node, is often the sign of advanced malignant disease (stage IV). So months have passed and I still feel this lump which doesn’t hurt but it’s annoying that I know it’s there but not sure why - taken in for an emergency doctors appointment for a check over and arranged a full blood count tests etc. Even though I did not have a cold or cough and felt very healthy and active. 2005.06.09: The patient underwent pathological examination, the diagnosis was adenocarcinoma metastatic (left supraclavicular lymph nodes).: 2008.06.26: CT scan in Figure 21. I went to the gp when I first noticed it and was told it was nothing to worry about and was that time of year for coughs and colds. He felt the area but said the nodes felt benign. I saw my primary care doc for a physical 3 weeks ago. The swollen supraclavicular lymph nodes are easily felt as small tender. ![]() It feels more like a knot or lump more at the top of that area towards the ridge where my shoulder meets my supraclavicular area, if that makes sense. Troisier sign is the name given to left-sided supraclavicular lymphadenopathy, highly suggestive of abdominal malignancy. Swelling and pain in the lymph nodes are signs of an infection and sometimes, a malignancy (a cancerous tumor). I found a lump under my collarbone to the left and has grown to about 2x2 cm. I am concerned about a swollen area over my left supraclavicular area. I’m not sure how active this site is but I need some advice and reassurance. ![]()
